Scholarship Opportunities for Undergraduates

A number of scholarships are awarded each spring to outstanding NAU students enrolled in a major program of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and who will be returning the following Fall Semester. Each year the awards are announced during the Mathematics & Statistics Honors Week reception in April.  Application ProcessScholarship deadline: Friday, March 28, 2008.

The following is a list of available scholarships and approximate award values which are subject to change each year.

The Vesto M. Slipher Scholarship (Mathematics Award).

Eligibility: 
Outstanding Junior or Senior majoring in Mathematics or Statistics.  Must have at least two semesters of remaining course work to be completed.

Expected Value: TBA

Charles E. Little Mathematics Education Scholarship.

    Eligibility:
    Outstanding Junior majoring (full-time enrollment) in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education
    Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, US citizen
    Career aspirations to be a high school mathematics teacher
    Preference to Arizona high school graduates

    Expected Value: TBA

Joseph Mutter Mathematics Scholarship.

    Eligibility:
    Outstanding Sophomore, Junior or Senior majoring in Mathematics or Statistics or Mathematics Education
    Preference will be given to graduates of high schools in Coconino County

    Expected Value: TBA

Karan and Terence Hall Scholarship.

    Eligibility:
    Deserving Junior or Senior majoring in Mathematics or Statistics
    Preference will be given to candidates maintaining or exceeding a cumulative GPA of 3.0 who demonstrate scholastic merit and/or financial need

Harvey Butchart Mathematics Scholarship

 

Eligibility:
Outstanding Junior or Senior majoring in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education

Expected Value: TBA

Charles E. Dunson Scholarship

 

Eligibility:
Undergraduate in Mathematics Education
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

Expected Value: TBA

Raytheon Scholarships TBA

 

Eligibility:
Outstanding Junior or Senior majoring in Mathematics or Statistics

Expected Value: TBA


APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Complete a Scholarship Application form and return it with academic transcripts as indicated on the form.  Forms are available in the Department Office (Adel Mathematics Building, room 107) or are available at the following links:

  2. Arrange for two Scholarship Recommendation forms to be filled out and returned.  Recommenders should typically be professors in your Mathematics or Statistics courses.  Forms are available in the Department Office (Adel Mathematics Building, room 107) or are available at the following links:

  3. All application materials are to be returned to:
    Chair/Undergraduate Scholarship and Awards Committee

    Materials can also be dropped off at the Department Office in the Adel Mathematics Building, room 107.
