Multicultural Academic Peer and mentoring Program

Our academic and peer mentoring program is designed to help freshman and sophomore students better achieve their goals and successfully complete their degree programs. Mentees enjoy the support and encouragement from their mentors and role models who have first-hand knowledge of challenges inexperienced student may face which are unique to their major.

Benefits of Participating:

  • Mentees have a one-on-one relationship with a role model and peer advisor
  • Mentees develop increased confidence in their classes and in interactions with faculty
  • Mentors develop valuable skill to include on their resumes
  • Mentors affirm their self-confidence and sense of accomplishment
  • ALL participants' receive a $200.00 bookstore stipend at the end of each semester upon fulfilling requirements

Requirements:

  • Attend the MAPP Orientation meeting
  • Complete a mentor/mentee agreement outlining a contact/meeting plan
  • Stay in contact with your mentor/mentee over the course of the semester
  • Attend MAPP group events (i.e. BBQ, study sessions, movie night, etc.)
  • Submit reflective writings--brief remarks on your meetings with your mentor/mentee--over the course of the semester

How Do I Apply?:

  • Download and complete an application and submit it to the MEP. Located in the Engineering building, bldg 69, Room 122L, 122M, or 122P.
  • All are eligible to apply
  • Upon selection we will notify you and help you get in contact with your mentor/mentee
