Posters and Presentations at CURD

Presentations: Presentations will be scheduled in 30-minute slots during the various sessions: 15-20 minute talk, 5-10 minutes questions, 5 minutes setup for next speaker in session. Speakers should plan to arrive early to set up their presentations.

Poster Presentation Expectations: To accommodate all of the research posters and allow time for poster judges to view all posters and visit with presenters, posters will be displayed in two sessions throughout the day in the Dubois Ballroom and adjacent rooms. The following important rules apply:

  • You will be expected to have your poster up for half the day, AM or PM, depending on the session.
  • You will be assigned to be present at your poster for 1.5 hours to present it and answer questions about your work.

Participants who are giving both oral presentations and posters will be scheduled so that their poster session does not overlap their presentation session. All other poster presentations will be scheduled in remaining times; where possible, we will work to accommodate preferred times specified by presenters (no guarantees).

Poster Creation: It is the responsibility of participating students to create posters for the poster session. In general, posters may be of almost any format or size, but should generally be designed to be pinned up on a large board for display. Free-standing poster displays are possible, but students will need to arrange for small table or chairs to place the display. For consistency and convenience, we recommend that students download and take advantage of the CURD poster template provided here to help quickly create an attractive poster.

Poster Printing: If you do not have the resources for printing the poster, CENS and the Department of Physics and Astronomy will subsidize this expense. The process is as follows:

  • Posters must be sized to 34 high by 48 wide (inches) in PowerPoint format. No other formats or sizes are acceptable.
  • Electronic Powerpoint files of posters should be emailed to ed.anderson@nau.edu no later than noon, Monday, April 14 to guarantee on-time printing for the Friday presentations.
  • Printed posters should be picked up by a member of the presenting team; posters will NOT be delivered to CURD.
